Olomouc in Summer

Summer in Olomouc is all about the outdoors. Swimming at the lake, relaxing in the parks and gardens, a cold drink or three at one of the outdoor cafes, and ice cream by the fountain on the square at sunset have been some of our guests' favourite summer things.
Most of the local university students will be away on holiday, but they're replaced in the bars and clubs at least partly by the many foreigners who come for the Summer School of Czech as a foreign language.
Likewise, the jazz club and other live music venues close for the holidays, but are replaced by the free outdoor concerts of classical, swing or jazz music every Friday evening and Sunday afternoon; the Thursday night concerts of the Olomouc summer festival of culture; and the outdoor cinema beneath the old city walls.
All the main historical attractions are open, and summer's a great time for cycling daytrips into the countryside, especially through the shady forests that line the Morava River or up into the hills to one of the castles.
Organised events of summer start with the Olomouc city festival towards the end of June, then move out of town: the Zahrada folk music festival, the Boskovice Jewish Quarter festival, and the almost weekly historic festivals at the nearby castles are some of the highlights. |

"Wow, what can I say except one of the best weeks I have ever had. From the moment I arrived you all made me feel at home and have created such a wonderful place, I didn't want to leave. So many great people I met here, the other members of the fab 4 and I have a lifelong bond because of your map. It inspires me to only go to little towns as much as possible from now on, Best of luck for the future." Simon, Adelaide, Australia
"Thanks for the hospitality and your kindness. We really enjoy the time in Olomouc. Not only staff of Poets Corner, people here are extremely kind and willing to help foreigners. Greg, we'll remember your humor and the food you recommended were awesome! We almost cry out 'How could they be so cheap but delicious'. The sights are fabulous too. We are so regret that we only spent 2 days here. people who visit here must be those who were blessed" -Jay, Taiwan
"Cheers for the stay, the trip to the lake, everything. It was a fantastic 3 nights. My only comment would be you guys need to get that slide built :-)" -Robbie, England
